At Salon Cabelo, the health and safety of our guests are always our top priorities. To ensure that every colour service is as safe and enjoyable as possible, we require an Allergy Alert Test before applying any colour to your hair.
Why Do I Need an Allergy Alert Test?
Hair colour products contain a variety of ingredients that can occasionally trigger allergic reactions, even if you've used similar products before without issue. One key ingredient, PPD (paraphenylenediamine), is known to cause allergic responses in some people. The Allergy Alert Test helps us identify any potential sensitivities before your appointment, ensuring your safety and peace of mind.
Is it Really Essential?
Yes! Not only is it a legal requirement for our health and safety policies and insurance coverage, but it’s also a vital step in protecting your well-being. Sensitivities to allergens can change over time, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Do I Still Need a Test If I've Coloured My Hair Before?
Yes, even if you’ve coloured your hair before, you’ll need an Allergy Alert Test if you haven’t had a colour service at our salon in the past 12 months. Sensitivities can change over time due to factors like recent tattoos, henna use, reactions to other products, or changes in your health. These changes can increase your likelihood of an allergic reaction, so it’s always better to be safe.
How Does The Test Work?
No appointment is necessary—just drop by the salon at least 48 hours before your colour appointment. One of our friendly team members will apply a small amount of the colour product to your skin, usually along your hairline behind your ear.
The test only takes a few minutes, but you’ll need to leave the product on for 48 hours to monitor for any potential reactions. If you notice redness, itching, swelling, or any other discomfort during this time, please let us know right away.

Under 16? Unfortunately, due to manufacturer guidelines, we are unable to provide any colour services for guests under the age of 16. We understand this may be disappointing, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.
